We know how important a webinar title is for attracting an audience – it often determines how many people sign up. That’s why we held a popular training session for content creators, marketers, and entrepreneurs. Now, we’re sharing the key takeaways.
The training was led by Maciej Biegajewski, a digital marketing expert and webinar creator who has organized over 100 events worldwide. He showed how to create strong webinar titles that meet your audience’s needs and boost registrations. The goal was to give practical tips and a clear strategy for successful online events.
Why is the title 90% of your webinar’s success?
In the world of online marketing, you only get one chance to make a first impression. Amid dozens of invitations and offers, the webinar topic often determines whether someone will even click to learn more.
The psychology of first impressions (the so-called halo effect) is relentless – people decide in fractions of a second whether it’s worth investing their time in an event. That’s why the title is 90% of the success – it must immediately grab attention, spark curiosity, and clearly demonstrate value to the attendee.
What makes a good title?
Many content creators struggle with what seems like a simple but crucial challenge – how to give your webinar a title that truly attracts attention. We often hear, “I have valuable material, but nobody signs up,” or “I don’t know how to express in a few words what the participant will gain.”
There are also doubts: is the topic too general, or maybe too niche? Some creators choose titles that seem fitting, but the registration rate says otherwise. Add to this a lack of ideas and creative energy when you must come up with something that really surprises your audience. If you feel this way – you’re not alone.
Before You Write a Word, Get to Know Your Client
Before you even write the first letter, pause and answer these key questions: Who is my audience? What problems are they struggling with? What do they desire most? The success of your webinar starts with a deep understanding of your target group. Analyze the needs, challenges, and dreams of your potential participants. A good title should hit on a specific desire or address a real problem they face every day.
Essential Principles for Creating Titles
#1 A good webinar topic shouldn’t be just a dry description of what you’re going to talk about. Instead, it should clearly show what problem you will help solve or what result the participant can achieve. A title that communicates real benefits immediately grabs attention and encourages sign-ups. Think in terms of the “language of benefits”.
To do this, define the problem or highlight the benefit, using the language of benefits. Think about what your webinar solves, facilitates, or changes. The participant doesn’t want to “listen to a presentation”—they want to “learn how to write better,” “get more clients,” or “understand AI stress-free.”
#2 The most effective titles are based on proven psychological and copywriting principles. They use emotion, awaken curiosity, or show clear value to the audience. These formulas are not a matter of chance - they result from experience and testing what truly works for people.
So what does this mean for creating webinar titles?
- Avoid generalities: Research at the University of Georgia in 1991 showed that the human brain processes concrete information much better than abstract information.
Titles like “Trends 2025” don’t make much of an impression. People don’t know what’s in it for them.
“All those statistical data, numbers – things we can visualize easily – give us a foothold, as Maciej Biegajewski said during the webinar: “For example, let’s do a test: Would you rather play a game show where the main prize is ‘a big cash win’ or, let’s say, defined specifically as ‘a million dollars win’? Of course, numbers work more vividly for us.”
- Put the audience at the center: Instead of saying, “I’ll talk about my experience,” say, “See how you can avoid the mistakes I made.”
#3 The foundation of an effective topic is a deep understanding of your audience. Their frustrations, fears, goals, and desires – all form the foundation. Only then can you create a topic that sounds like the answer to their inner question. That’s the kind of messaging that attracts the most attendees.
"Remember to add numbers, something tangible that gives your potential audience a guarantee of what they will get after your webinar or meeting," added Maciej Biegajewski.
Curiosity Gap
Another concept discussed in the webinar was the so-called curiosity gap, or information gap. This refers to the difference between what we already know and what we want to know – a feeling of information deficiency that compels us to seek missing details. In marketing and the media (e.g., article headlines or social media posts), the “curiosity gap” is used to spark audience interest and make them click or read to satisfy their curiosity.
Example: The article title “You won’t believe what happened next...” uses the curiosity gap – the reader doesn’t know the ending and wants to find out.
Maciej Biegajewski: “The effect of the curiosity gap is making use of discomfort or the urge to learn something we don’t yet know. The most interesting thing about this is that it works in a very specific setup – in the right context of our existing knowledge.”
Negativity Effect
The negativity bias in titles is a phenomenon where people pay more attention to content with a negative tone than to neutral or positive content.
What is it about?
Titles containing negative words or suggesting negative consequences (“Don’t make this mistake,” “7 things you’re doing wrong,” “Scary consequences...”) grab attention more effectively because our brains see messages about threats or problems as more important - a mechanism that helped our ancestors survive.
Why does it work?
“If you turn on the news, you’ll find that out of 10 stories, 8 are negative, because the media compete for our attention – and unfortunately, negative information spreads faster than good news, which also has a relatively poor influence on our overall mental state. The negativity effect – bad news or warnings about what not to do – sort of hack our brains, and we remember them more than the positive side,” explained Maciej Biegajewski.
7 Proven Title Formulas That Get Clicks
Creating a catchy webinar title isn’t a talent you’re born with – it’s a skill you can learn, using proven templates. Here are several formulas that consistently win over inboxes and social media feeds:
#1. The “How to…?” Formula
This is a classic. Participants love specifics—if you can show “how to do something,” you immediately get their attention. Example: “How to triple your sales without increasing your ad budget?”
#2. The List Formula
Lists are readable and predictable—and that’s what we like. They promise quick, organized knowledge. Example: “7 customer service mistakes that destroy your reputation”
#3. The Secret Formula
“Secret” is a trigger word. It arouses curiosity and suggests you’ll soon learn something that was previously hidden. Example: “The secret to creating engaging content that agencies won’t tell you”
#4. The Question Formula
Questions prompt reflection and invite engagement. This is a great option if you want to involve your audience in the topic. Example: “Is your Call Center ready for the AI era?”
#5. Avoid the Mistake
People are naturally afraid of making mistakes, so titles promising protection from negative consequences are very effective. This kind of title draws on the negativity effect. Examples: “Don’t make this mistake if you care about high profits,” “3 common mistakes that could ruin your marketing”
#6. Achieve Your Goal Without…
This formula signals to the audience that they can achieve a desired result while avoiding something difficult, costly, or unpleasant. Such a title promises a shortcut, which is very attractive from a psychological perspective. Examples: “How to get clients without spending a fortune on ads?”, “Increase sales without working overtime—proven strategies”
#7. For Whom
Clearly stating your target audience in the title helps attract exactly the people you want. Personalization increases the effectiveness of your titles and makes the audience feel the webinar was made just for them.
Examples: "Webinar for freelancers: effective client acquisition strategies." "Workshop for small business owners: how to build your expert image"
Remember, not every formula fits every topic. If your webinar is about a specific process, choose “How to...”. If you’re focusing on mistakes or common pitfalls, use a list format.
Power Words That Work
Some words are simply more powerful than others. Using them in your title can multiply your registrations. Here are some sample power words:
- Words that spark curiosity: secret, hidden, controversial, surprising
- Words promising ease/speed: simple, quick, in 3 steps, effortless
- Words creating urgency: now, before it’s too late, last chance, today only
Match the Title to Your Webinar’s Goal
Not every webinar serves the same purpose – your title should reflect that. A good title works like a magnet – it attracts the right audience and immediately communicates value. Here’s how to adjust your topic depending on the type of online event:
#1. Sales Webinar – Show What Attendees Gain
If your goal is to sell a product or service, focus the topic on benefits - not features. Instead of “Presentation of the new X tool,” go for:
“How you’ll save 3 hours a day with X – live demo”
“See how companies like yours increased sales by 28% thanks to Y”
Attendees should know right away why your webinar is worth their time.
#2. Lead Generation Webinar – Solve an Urgent Problem
If your goal is to collect leads, your title should hit on a current challenge facing your target group. Great options are questions or clear promises of relief:
“Why your email campaigns aren’t selling - and how to fix it in 5 steps”
“Do your clients truly trust you? Quick test and solutions”
This type of title delivers value right away - and encourages further contact.
#3. Training and Onboarding Webinars – Inspire Action
Training doesn’t have to sound boring. The name should motivate people to learn and clearly show what they’ll gain:
“Master system X in 30 minutes – beginner's workshop”
“Your first 3 campaigns with Y – step by step, zero stress”
Even internal topics can be attractive if you put the participant at the center.
#4. Expert Series – Build Authority
If you’re running an educational or expert series, make sure the style stays consistent, professional, and still engaging. Titles promising insights, trends, or unique viewpoints work perfectly:
“What really works in B2B sales - best practices that survived 2025”
“Artificial Intelligence in HR: facts, myths, and good practices”
This format builds trust and positions you as someone with real expertise - not just someone running a webinar.
The Most Common Webinar Title Mistakes – Make Sure You’re Not Making Them
Even the best ideas can be sunk by basic pitfalls. Avoid these:
- Too generic titles – they say nothing to the audience, e.g. “Marketing webinar”
- Clickbait – promise more than you deliver, which hurts your reputation
- Lack of benefit – if the title doesn’t clearly state what the attendee gets, you won’t attract sign-ups
Each title should be specific, credible, and focused on the participant’s needs.
How to Check If Your Topic Works? Simple Testing Techniques
Don’t guess – test! Here are some ways:
- Polls – ask your social media or mailing list which topic interests them the most
- A/B tests in ads – promote two different titles and see which one gets more clicks
- LiveWebinar analytics—analyze which events got the most registrations and draw conclusions
Data-driven planning lets you craft topics that really attract your audience.
